What is MAZE?
MAZE is a first-person, procedurally generated psychological horror game.
You play Navya - a woman of mixed heritage in her 20s - who becomes trapped in a deadly MAZE that spans four seasons.
To escape, she must solve puzzles and seek the help of the creatures who inhabit the MAZE while evading those who intend to harm her.
Upon each “death”, the MAZE will reset to a new randomly generated configuration, forcing Navya to relearn the MAZE’s myriad pathways if she has any hope of escape.
Procedural Generation
We worked closely with the creators of Apparance to best utilise their procedural generation technology.
Apparance is a new technology built for the interactive authoring of procedural algorithms to create detailed and expansive 3D experiences.
This allows us to create extensive, interactive areas that blend seamlessly into each other, while being unique every playthrough.
Gameplay Pillars
EXPLORATION - utilise a parkour-style traversal system to walk, jump, crawl, slide and sprint.
SURVIVAL - navigate the terrain, avoiding the traps and predators that appear in the unique MAZE created for each playthrough.
CHOICE - collect and combine items to complete quests and interact with various environmental puzzle elements through a simplified inventory.
DEATH – adapt to the changing environment as the MAZE reconfigures every time you die.
